Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.5 cups Milk (or water)
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 packet Taco seasoning
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup Diced tomatoes
  • 1.5 cups Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 0.5 cup Salsa
  • 0.5 cup Chopped green onions
  • 0.25 cup Cilantro (optional, chopped)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

Gradually add the milk (or water) while stirring, until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Flour a clean surface and knead the dough for about 2-3 minutes, then cover with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Flatten each ball into a disk about 6-7 inches in diameter.

Step 5

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Step 6

Carefully fry each piece of dough one at a time, cooking until golden brown on both sides (about 1-2 minutes per side). Set the fry bread on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 7

In a separate skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat and mix in the taco seasoning according to package instructions (usually with a small amount of water).

Step 8

To assemble the Indian tacos, place one fry bread on a plate and top it with a layer of seasoned ground beef.

Step 9

Add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, chopped green onions, and cilantro if desired.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your County Fair Indian Tacos!
