Ingredients

  • 1 slice sliced bread
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Using a round cookie cutter or the rim of a small glass, cut a hole about 2 inches in diameter in the center of the slice of bread. Keep the bread intact, including the cut-out circle.

Step 2

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Allow the butter to melt and coat the skillet evenly.

Step 3

Place the slice of bread and its cut-out circle into the skillet. Toast on one side for about 1–2 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 4

Flip the bread and the cut-out circle over. Crack the egg into the hole in the bread, being careful to keep the yolk intact.

Step 5

Season the egg with a pinch of salt and a pinch of black pepper. Cook for 2–3 minutes, or until the egg whites are set but the yolk remains runny. For a harder yolk, cook 1–2 minutes longer.

Step 6

Once the egg is cooked to your liking, remove the bread from the skillet, along with the toasted cut-out circle.

Step 7

Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve immediately. Use the toasted cut-out circle to dip into the yolk, if runny.
