Ingredients

  • 1 head (medium-sized, approximately 2 lbs) Green cabbage
  • 6 strips Bacon
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 medium (diced) Yellow onion
  • 3 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 1 cup Chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon (or to taste) Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon (optional for heat) Red pepper flakes

Directions

Step 1

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, cut into quarters, and then slice each quarter into 1-inch strips. Rinse well and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon, leaving the grease in the skillet, and place it on a paper towel to cool. Once cool, crumble the bacon into small pieces and set aside.

Step 3

To the skillet with bacon grease, add the unsalted butter and diced onion. Sauté over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
