In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, dry yeast, sugar, and salt.
Add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion for 2-3 minutes until softened.
Add the minced garlic, cooked corn kernels, black pepper, and chili flakes (if using) to the skillet. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let the filling cool completely.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air and divide it into 8 equal portions.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out each portion of dough into a small circle or oval. Place 1-2 tablespoons of the corn and onion filling in the center of each circle.
Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a roll or pocket shape. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
Brush the tops of the rolls with beaten egg for a shiny finish. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top, if desired.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and fully baked.
