Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 4 pieces Sesame seed hamburger buns
  • 4 pieces American cheese slices
  • 12 pieces Pickle slices
  • 4 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 4 teaspoons Yellow mustard
  • 0.25 cup White onion, finely minced
  • 2 teaspoons Butter (optional, for toasting buns)
  • 1 tablespoon Cooking spray or oil

Directions

Step 1

Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (4 ounces each) and shape them into thin, flat patties about 4 inches in diameter. Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper.

Step 2

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Spray lightly with cooking spray or add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

Step 3

Place the patties onto the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on the first side. Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty, allowing it to melt as the patties finish cooking (2-3 minutes). Cook until the patties are browned and cooked through, about 145°F for medium.

Step 4

If desired, toast the buns: Lightly butter the cut sides of the sesame seed buns and place them face down on a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 5

Assemble the burgers: Place a cooked patty with melted cheese on the bottom half of each bun. Spread 1 tablespoon of ketchup and 1 teaspoon of mustard over each patty.

Step 6

Add 3 pickle slices per burger and sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of finely minced white onion on top.

Step 7

Place the top bun over the assembled burger and serve immediately. For a plain hamburger, simply omit the cheese from the patties during cooking.
