Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 cup Water
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 0.5 cup Sauce: Sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 0.5 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Water (for sauce)
  • 1 tsp Cornstarch (for sauce thickening)
  • 2 tbsp Green onions (garnish)
  • 1 tsp Sesame seeds (garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces, about 1-2 inches in size.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually add the water and whisk until you form a smooth batter.

Step 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Ensure there's enough oil to fully submerge the chicken pieces.

Step 4

Dip each piece of chicken into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Carefully drop the battered chicken pieces into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding.

Step 5

Cook the chicken for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.

Step 6

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the sauce and continue to cook for another minute until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat.

Step 8

Toss the fried chicken pieces in the prepared sauce until thoroughly coated.

Step 9

Transfer the chicken to a serving platter. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds for a final touch.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Copycat Chili’s Boneless Shanghai Wings!
