Ingredients

  • 2 sheets Puff pastry sheets
  • 1 cup Strawberry jam (or any jam of choice)
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Lightly dust your work surface with flour and roll out the puff pastry sheets to smooth them and slightly thin them out.

Step 3

Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as possible from each pastry sheet. You should have an even number of hearts since two hearts are needed per pastry.

Step 4

Take half of the hearts and use a smaller cookie cutter to create a heart-shaped cutout in the center of these pieces. These will become the top layer of your pastries.

Step 5

Place the solid hearts (bottom layer) onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each piece.

Spoon about 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam onto the center of each solid heart, spreading it slightly but leaving a border around the edges.

Step 7

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash.

Brush the edges of the bottom heart pieces (around the jam) with the egg wash, then place the cutout heart pieces on top, gently pressing the edges to seal.
