Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Instant yeast
  • 1 cup Warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large Egg
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese, softened
  • 0.25 cup Red bell pepper, finely diced
  • 0.25 cup Yellow bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons Green onion, thinly sliced
  • 0.25 cup Carrot, grated
  • 0.5 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 large Egg, for egg wash
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.

Step 2

Add warm milk, melted butter, and one large egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, diced red and yellow bell peppers, sliced green onions, grated carrot, and shredded mozzarella cheese until well combined. Set aside.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 12x15 inches.

Step 7

Spread the cream cheese and vegetable mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border along the edges.

Step 8

Starting from one of the longer sides, roll up the dough tightly into a log and pinch the seam to seal.

Step 9

Using a sharp knife or string, slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side-up in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 10

Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 12

Brush the tops of the rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning, if desired.

Step 13

Bake the rolls for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 14

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature!
