Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely diced
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Water (optional, to adjust consistency)

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet or saucepan, add the ground beef over medium heat. Cook, breaking it up into small crumbles with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 2

Add the finely diced onion to the skillet with the ground beef and sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Drain any excess grease from the skillet to achieve a leaner sauce, if desired.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the tomato paste, beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and yellow mustard. Mix well to combine the ingredients into a smooth sauce base.

Step 5

Add the chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.

Step 6

Allow the sauce to simmer on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. If the sauce becomes too thick, add water, a tablespoon at a time, to reach your desired consistency.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary. Add more salt, pepper, or chili powder if preferred.

Step 8

Serve the chili sauce hot over grilled or steamed hot dogs in buns, topping with shredded cheese, diced onions, or additional mustard as desired.
