Ingredients

  • 1.25 cups Warm water (110-115°F)
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.33 cups Sugar
  • 0.5 cups Whole milk
  • 0.33 cups Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 4.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Additional melted butter for brushing

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 2

Warm the milk gently until just lukewarm, then add it to the yeast mixture. Stir in the melted butter, egg, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue until the dough starts to come together but is still slightly sticky.

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 5

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces, shaping each into a smooth ball.

Step 7

Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a small amount of space between each roll. Cover with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.

Step 9

Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter for a glossy finish.

Step 10

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with butter or as a side for your favorite meal!
