Ingredients

  • 4 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.75 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Rolled oats
  • 0.5 cup Light brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.25 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish or a small casserole dish for the dessert assembly.

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the diced apples, granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well and cook for 8-10 minutes until apples are tender and slightly caramelized. Set aside.

Step 3

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt. Add the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter, cutting it into the mixture using your hands or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and crispy.

Step 5

While the apple crisp bakes, prepare the whipped cream topping. In a chilled mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract using a hand mixer or stand mixer until soft peaks form. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 6

Once the apple crisp is out of the oven, allow it to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes.

Step 7

To serve, spoon generous portions of the warm apple crisp onto dessert plates. Drizzle each serving with caramel sauce and add a dollop of whipped cream on top.

Step 8

Optional: Garnish with a sprinkle of extra cinnamon or crushed nuts for added texture and flavor.
