Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 1.5 cups Freshly brewed coffee
  • 4 large Egg yolks
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.125 teaspoon Salt
  • 0 Whipped cream (optional topping)
  • 0 Ground cinnamon or nutmeg (for garnish, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, and freshly brewed coffee. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to steam. Do not let it boil.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until well combined and slightly thickened.

Step 3

Gradually add a ladleful of the hot milk mixture to the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs and avoid curdling.

Step 4

Slowly pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture, whisking continuously.

Step 5

Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Ensure the mixture does not boil, as this can cause the eggs to scramble.

Step 6

Remove the saucepan from heat and transfer the Coffee Eggnog to a heatproof pitcher or bowl. Let it cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to chill and thicken further.

Step 7

Before serving, pour the chilled Coffee Eggnog into glasses. Optionally, top each glass with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish.

Step 8

Serve and enjoy your festive Coffee Eggnog!
