Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons roasted chana dal
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 inch piece ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 0.5 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 dried red chili
  • 6 curry leaves

Directions

Step 1

In a blender, add the grated coconut, roasted chana dal, green chilies, ginger, and salt.

Step 2

Pour in 3/4 cup of water and blend until you achieve a smooth consistency. Add more water if needed to reach your desired consistency.

Step 3

Transfer the blended chutney into a serving bowl.

Step 4

In a small pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.

Step 5

Once the oil is hot, add the mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.

Step 6

Add the urad dal and fry until they turn golden brown.

Step 7

Break the dried red chili in half and add it to the pan along with the curry leaves. Fry for a few seconds.

Step 8

Pour this tempering mixture over the prepared coconut chutney.
