Ingredients

  • 1 cup white rice (long-grain or basmati)
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola (regular, not diet)
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium saucepan or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until melted.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the rinsed rice and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, to lightly toast the rice.

Step 5

Pour in the Coca-Cola and water, then add soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

Step 6

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low. Cover with a lid and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the liquid is fully absorbed and the rice is tender.

Step 7

Once cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes to steam.

Step 8

Fluff the rice gently with a fork. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 9

Transfer the rice to a serving dish and garnish with chopped green onions, if desired. Serve warm.
