Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons Dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 12 sheets Lasagna noodles
  • 16 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking the meat apart with a spoon. Drain off excess grease.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Simmer the sauce on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with the egg, grated Parmesan, and optional fresh parsley. Set aside.

Step 7

Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce onto the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Place 3 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, covering the bottom of the dish.

Step 9

Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 10

Top the cheese layer with another 1 cup of meat sauce, spreading it out evenly.

Step 11

Repeat the layering process (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce), finishing with a layer of noodles topped with the remaining meat sauce and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.

Step 12

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure it doesn’t touch the cheese to prevent sticking. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 13

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 14

Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
