Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm milk (approximately 110°F/43°C)
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Large egg
  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Butter, melted for brushing (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is activated.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix until well incorporated.

Step 3

Gradually add the all-purpose flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing as you go. Once the dough becomes difficult to stir, transfer it to a lightly floured surface.

Step 4

Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook and knead on medium speed for 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning the dough to coat it lightly with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the risen dough to release excess air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and shape each portion into a smooth ball.

Step 7

Arrange the dough balls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish or on a greased baking sheet, leaving a small space between each roll to allow for expansion during the second rise.

Step 8

Cover the shaped rolls with a kitchen towel and let them rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once preheated, bake the rolls for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Step 10

Remove the rolls from the oven and brush them with melted butter for a glossy, flavorful finish, if desired. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
