Ingredients

  • 250 grams rolled oats
  • 125 grams unsalted butter
  • 125 grams golden syrup
  • 125 grams light brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) or 160°C (320°F) fan-forced.

Step 2

Line a 20cm (8 inches) square baking tin with parchment paper, ensuring it covers the sides as well for easy removal later.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter, golden syrup, and light brown sugar over low heat, stirring occasionally until everything is well combined and smooth.

Step 4

Remove from the heat and stir in the pinch of salt.

Step 5

Add the rolled oats to the melted butter mixture and stir until the oats are evenly coated with the syrupy mixture.

Step 6

Pour the oat mixture into the prepared baking tin, spreading it evenly and pressing it down firmly with the back of a spoon or spatula.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges have turned a golden brown and the surface has a slight crust.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the tin for about 10 minutes.

Step 9

Lift the flapjack out of the tin using the parchment paper, and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Once completely cool, cut into 12 squares or bars and serve.
