Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cups Whole milk
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil
  • 0 for dusting Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar. Whisk to blend the dry ingredients thoroughly.

Step 2

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, allow it to cool slightly.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Slowly add the cooled melted butter to the wet ingredients and whisk until combined.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet mixture into it. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients until a dough forms. It should be slightly sticky but manageable.

Step 5

Lightly flour a work surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead the dough gently for about 2-3 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a disk about 1/4-inch thick using your hands or a rolling pin.

Step 7

Pour the vegetable oil into a deep fryer or large, heavy-bottomed pot. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) using a deep-fry thermometer for accuracy.

Step 8

Carefully lower one or two pieces of dough into the hot oil, depending on the size of your pot, without overcrowding. Fry each side for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

Step 9

Using a slotted spoon or metal tongs, remove the fried dough from the oil and transfer it to a baking sheet lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Step 10

Repeat the frying process with the remaining dough.

Step 11

Once all pieces are fried and slightly cooled, dust generously with powdered sugar before serving warm. Enjoy your delicious homemade fried dough!
