Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80% lean)
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp Onion powder
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 leaves Lettuce leaves
  • 1 large Tomato
  • 1 small Onion
  • 8 slices Pickle slices
  • 0 as needed Ketchup
  • 0 as needed Mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined. Overmixing can make the burgers tough.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and gently shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Preheat a grill or a stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Place the patties on the hot grill or skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side, until a nice crust forms and the burger releases easily from the grill or skillet.

Step 5

Flip the burger and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your preferred level of doneness.

Step 6

While the burgers are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into thin slices and prepare the lettuce and pickle slices.

Step 7

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in the oven for about 1-2 minutes until golden.

Step 8

Assemble the burger by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a cooked burger patty with melted cheese. Add tomato slices, onion slices, and pickle slices as desired.

Step 9

Spread ketchup and mustard on the top half of each bun and place it on top of the assembled burger.

Step 10

Serve hot with your choice of sides.
