Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef (80/20 mix)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato
  • 8 slices pickles
  • 0 optional ketchup
  • 0 optional mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder until just combined. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the patties tender.

Step 2

Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4 inches thick. Make an indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil to the skillet.

Step 4

Once hot, place the burger patties in the skillet. Cook for about 3–4 minutes on the first side, or until nicely browned.

Step 5

Flip the patties, add a slice of cheddar cheese on each, and cook for an additional 3–4 minutes, or until the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness and the cheese is melted.

Step 6

Remove the patties from the skillet and let them rest for 2 minutes.

Step 7

Meanwhile, slice the tomato into thick rounds and prepare lettuce leaves.

Step 8

Toast the hamburger buns on the same skillet for about 1 minute or until lightly golden.

Step 9

Assemble the burgers by placing one patty on the bottom half of each bun, then topping with a lettuce leaf, a tomato slice, and two pickle slices. Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun, if desired.

Step 10

Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
