Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water
  • 200 grams Dark chocolate (chopped, for ganache)
  • 1 cup Heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 100 grams White chocolate (chopped, for drizzle)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter (for greasing pans)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter. Line the bottom of the pans with parchment paper for easy release.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed using an electric mixer until smooth.

Step 4

Slowly add the boiling water into the batter, mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin—this is normal.

Step 5

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 6

Remove the pans from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 7

To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour it over the chopped dark chocolate in a bowl. Let it sit for 2–3 minutes, then stir until smooth. Let the ganache cool slightly so it thickens but is still pourable.

Step 8

To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of ganache on top, then place the second cake layer over it. Spread the remaining ganache over the top and sides of the cake.

Step 9

For the white chocolate drizzle, melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (or melt in the microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently). Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the top of the cake in a decorative pattern.

Step 10

Allow the cake to set for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy the world’s best triple chocolate cake!
