Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup Fresh orange juice
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons Honey
  • 1 teaspoon Szechuan peppercorns
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger (grated)
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chili flakes
  • 1.5 tablespoons Sesame oil
  • 1.5 teaspoons Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water

Directions

Step 1

In a small, dry skillet over medium heat, toast the Szechuan peppercorns for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Remove from heat and lightly crush them using a mortar and pestle or the back of a spoon. Set aside.

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey. Set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and red chili flakes. Sauté for 30 seconds, stirring frequently, until fragrant but not browned.

Step 4

Pour the orange juice mixture into the saucepan and stir to combine. Add the toasted and crushed Szechuan peppercorns to the sauce.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth to create a slurry.

Step 6

Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the saucepan while stirring constantly. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using. The sauce can be poured over your favorite noodle bowl or stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
