Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter, cold
  • 0.75 cups Sour cream
  • 0.25 cups Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (optional for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.

Step 3

Add the cold unsalted butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

In a separate small bowl, mix the sour cream, milk, and vanilla extract until combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing gently until a dough forms. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky but manageable.

Step 6

Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick.

Step 7

Fold the dough over itself in thirds (like folding a letter) to create layers, then pat it back down into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Repeat this process one more time.

Step 8

Using a round biscuit cutter or an inverted glass, cut the dough into circles and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. Gather any scraps and gently pat them together to cut more biscuits.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

Step 10

Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
