Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (for sprinkling)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and egg until well combined.

Step 5

Pour the wet ingredients into the flour and butter mixture and gently mix with a spatula until the dough starts to come together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it forms a cohesive ball.

Step 7

Flatten the dough into a disc about 1 inch thick and 7 inches in diameter.

Step 8

Cut the disc into 8 equal wedges.

Step 9

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 10

Sprinkle the tops of the scones with cinnamon sugar to your liking.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

Step 12

Allow the scones to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
