Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.33 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cup Unsalted butter (softened for filling)
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk or heavy cream (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, warm 1 cup of milk until it is just lukewarm. Add 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter and stir until melted. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool until it feels just warm to touch.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/3 cup of granulated sugar and 2.25 teaspoons of active dry yeast. Pour the warm milk and butter mixture over the yeast and sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy, indicating that the yeast is activated.

Step 3

Add 2 large eggs to the mixture and whisk until combined. Gradually stir in 4 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for 6–8 minutes.

Step 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, make the filling by mixing 3/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 16x12 inches. Spread 1/4 cup of softened unsalted butter evenly over the surface of the dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered dough.

Step 7

Tightly roll the dough into a log starting from the long edge. Pinch the seam to seal. Cut the log into 12 equal slices and arrange them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Step 10

While the rolls bake, prepare the vanilla frosting by whisking together 1.5 cups of powdered sugar, 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream in a medium bowl until smooth.

Step 11

Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool for 5–10 minutes. Spread the vanilla frosting generously over the warm rolls.

Step 12

Serve the cinnamon rolls warm and enjoy!
