Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Powdered sugar (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking dish or a similar-sized pan.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Arrange them evenly across the bottom of the prepared pan.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and the ground cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the sliced apples.

Step 4

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl. Drizzle the melted butter over the cinnamon-sugar-coated apples.

Step 5

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Step 6

In a separate bowl, combine the milk, remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix—the batter should be slightly thick but pourable.

Step 7

Carefully pour the batter over the prepared apples, spreading it gently with a spatula to cover the fruit evenly.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center of the batter comes out clean.

Step 9

Allow the dish to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Step 10

Serve warm on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat!
