Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 0.25 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 4.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (for filling)
  • 2.5 tablespoons Ground cinnamon
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted, for filling)
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Whole milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

Warm the milk to around 110°F (lukewarm but not hot). Transfer to a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer.

Step 2

Add the sugar and yeast to the warm milk. Let sit for 5–10 minutes, or until the mixture becomes frothy.

Step 3

Mix in the softened butter, eggs, and salt until combined.

Step 4

Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, mixing as you go. Knead the dough by hand on a floured surface or with the stand mixer on medium speed for about 5–6 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by combining the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Step 7

After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (approximately 16x12 inches).

Step 8

Brush the melted butter evenly over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

Step 9

Carefully roll the dough into a tight log, starting from the longer side. Pinch the seam to seal the roll.

Step 10

Cut the rolled dough into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.

Step 11

Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place, or until they double in size again.

Step 12

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 13

Bake the cinnamon rolls for 18–22 minutes, or until they are golden brown.

Step 14

While the rolls are baking, make the frosting. Beat the powdered sugar, softened cream cheese, softened butter, vanilla, and milk together until smooth and creamy.

Step 15

Once the rolls are baked, spread the frosting over the warm rolls so it melts into every layer.

Step 16

Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Cinnabon-style cinnamon rolls!
