Ingredients

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 0.5 cup Greek yogurt (plain)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 0.25 cup Cilantro leaves (chopped)
  • 2 teaspoons Coriander seeds (lightly crushed)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (melted)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced, optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

Step 3

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture, Greek yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.

Step 4

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with a damp kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and fold in the chopped cilantro and crushed coriander seeds. Knead the dough for an additional 2-3 minutes to evenly distribute the herbs and spices.

Step 7

Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each into a ball. Use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 8

Heat a dry skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat. Place one piece of dough into the hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, until bubbles form and the bottom turns golden brown.

Step 9

Flip the naan and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from the skillet and immediately brush with melted butter and, if desired, sprinkle with minced garlic.

Step 10

Repeat the cooking process with the remaining pieces of dough.

Step 11

Serve the cilantro and coriander seed naan bread warm, either as a side for your favorite curry or as a standalone snack.
