Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks), softened unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 piece(s) large eggs
  • 2 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cup(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup(s) semi-sweet chocolate chunks
  • 0.5 cup(s) optional: chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in the mixing bowl, mixing on low speed just until combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.

Step 6

Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chunks and optional chopped nuts (if using) using a spatula or wooden spoon.

Step 7

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded dough balls onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers look slightly undercooked. The cookies will continue to bake as they cool.

Step 9

Remove the baking sheets from the oven and let the cookies cool on the trays for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Step 10

Serve warm for gooey chocolate goodness, or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
