  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 large, diced onion
  • 3 cloves, minced garlic
  • 4 cups canned baked beans
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 0.333 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Cook the bacon slices in the skillet until crispy, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the bacon, allow it to cool, and crumble it into pieces. Set aside.

Step 3

In the rendered bacon grease, add the diced onion and sauté for 5 minutes, until softened and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

In a large baking dish, combine the sautéed onion and garlic, canned baked beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir until fully incorporated.

Step 5

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top of the mixture.

Step 6

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 7

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to allow the top to caramelize slightly.

Step 9

Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy on its own!
