Ingredients

  • 12 slices Slices of white bread
  • 300 grams Cooked ham
  • 250 grams Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 6 large Eggs
  • 500 ml Whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup Cornflake crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons Butter, melted

Directions

Step 1

Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Trim the crusts off the slices of white bread. Arrange 6 slices in a single layer on the bottom of the baking dish.

Step 3

Layer half of the cooked ham on top of the bread slices, followed by half of the grated cheddar cheese.

Step 4

Add another layer of the remaining 6 bread slices, followed by the remaining ham and cheese.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper until fully combined.

Step 6

Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered bread, ham, and cheese in the baking dish. Press down gently on the layers to ensure the bread absorbs the liquid.

Step 7

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 8 hours.

Step 8

The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 9

Remove the dish from the fridge and discard the foil. Sprinkle the cornflake crumbs evenly over the top of the casserole.

Step 10

Drizzle the melted butter over the cornflake crumbs to ensure an even golden crust.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is golden and the casserole is set in the center.

Step 12

Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving warm.
