Ingredients

  • 4 large Egg whites
  • 200 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon Cream of tartar
  • 4 drops Red food coloring
  • 4 drops Green food coloring
  • 30 grams Holiday sprinkles (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large, clean bowl, add the egg whites and cream of tartar. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until soft peaks form.

Step 3

Gradually add the granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat. Increase the mixer speed to high and beat until stiff and glossy peaks form, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 4

Gently fold in the vanilla extract. Make sure the meringue mixture is smooth and holds its shape.

Step 5

Divide the meringue into three portions for coloring. Leave one portion white. Add the red food coloring to the second portion and the green food coloring to the third portion. Gently fold each color in until evenly distributed.

Step 6

Transfer each colored meringue into separate piping bags fitted with star or round tips. Pipe small mounds, stars, or candy-cane-shaped designs onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 7

If desired, sprinkle holiday-themed sprinkles on top of the meringue cookies for extra festivity.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 90 minutes, or until the meringues are dry to the touch and easily lift off the parchment paper. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.

Step 9

Once fully cooled, store the meringue cookies in an airtight container to keep them crisp. They can be stored at room temperature for up to two weeks.
