Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups Warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 cup Chorizo sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast.

Step 2

Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a rough dough forms.

Step 3

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 4

Flatten the dough slightly and spread the cooked, crumbled chorizo, shredded cheddar cheese, and smoked paprika (if using) evenly over the surface.

Step 5

Fold the dough over the fillings and knead gently to incorporate them evenly into the dough. Be careful not to overmix, as this can break down the cheese too much.

Step 6

Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 7

After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 8

Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it into the prepared pan.

Step 9

Cover the loaf loosely and let it rise for another 30 minutes, or until slightly puffed.

Step 10

Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Step 11

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5–10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
