Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 can Sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup Chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides for easy removal.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 3

Mix in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms into a crumbly consistency.

Step 4

Press two-thirds of the crumbly dough into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form an even base. Reserve the remaining dough for the crumb topping.

Step 5

Bake the base for 10-12 minutes, or until it is lightly golden. Set aside to cool while you prepare the filling.

Step 6

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and heavy cream. Stir constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.

Step 7

Optional: Stir in the chopped nuts if using, for added texture.

Step 8

Pour the chocolate mixture over the pre-baked base, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

Step 9

Crumble the reserved dough evenly over the top of the chocolate layer.

Step 10

Bake for an additional 12-15 minutes, or until the crumb topping is lightly golden.

Step 11

Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan. For quicker cooling, you can place the pan in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.

Step 12

Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan. Slice into 16 squares or desired size. Serve and enjoy!
