Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.75 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
  • 3 pieces large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 0.75 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan, or use a non-stick baking spray.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, Kahlua, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4

Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

Step 5

Slowly add the boiling water to the batter, stirring gently. The batter will be thin—this is normal.

Step 6

Fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then, carefully invert the cake onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar for a finished look, if desired.

Step 11

Slice and serve with a cup of coffee or glass of milk. Enjoy!
