Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 150 grams Granulated sugar
  • 50 grams Cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 250 milliliters Milk
  • 100 milliliters Vegetable oil
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 150 grams Milk chocolate buttons
  • 50 grams Optional: chocolate chips (for topping)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

Step 3

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet ingredients into the well. Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula or wooden spoon. Be careful not to overmix—it's fine if the batter is slightly lumpy.

Step 5

Fold in the milk chocolate buttons, reserving a small handful for topping if desired.

Step 6

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about three-quarters full. If using, sprinkle a few chocolate chips or reserved chocolate buttons on top of each muffin.

Step 7

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Step 8

Remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool in the tin for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 9

Serve warm or at room temperature. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
