Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3 cups confectioners' sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until completely liquefied.

Step 2

Add the butterscotch chips and semi-sweet chocolate chips to the melted butter. Stir continuously until both are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.

Step 3

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, sift the confectioners' sugar to remove any clumps.

Step 5

Gradually add the chocolate-butterscotch mixture to the sifted confectioners' sugar, stirring well to combine.

Step 6

Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt to the bowl. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the frosting on medium speed until light, fluffy, and smooth. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Step 7

If the frosting is too thick, add an additional tablespoon of heavy cream at a time, mixing in between, until the desired consistency is reached.

Step 8

Once the frosting is ready, use it immediately to frost your cake, cupcakes, or dessert of choice, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
