Ingredients

  • 250 grams Thin poha (flattened rice flakes)
  • 100 grams Peanuts
  • 50 grams Roasted chana dal
  • 50 grams Cashew nuts
  • 50 grams Dried coconut slices
  • 20 leaves Curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 pieces Green chilies
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Oil

Directions

Step 1

Place a large pan on the stove and heat it over medium flame. Add the thin poha to the pan and dry roast it for about 5-7 minutes until they become crisp. Stir continuously to avoid burning. Remove from the pan and set aside to cool.

Step 2

In the same pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Step 3

Add cumin seeds, followed by curry leaves, and split green chilies. Saute for another minute until the curry leaves turn crispy.

Step 4

Add the peanuts and fry until they start to change color and become crunchy.

Step 5

Add roasted chana dal and cashew nuts to the pan, stir-fry until the cashews turn golden brown.

Step 6

Add the dried coconut slices and continue frying for another 2-3 minutes until they are lightly golden.

Step 7

Sprinkle in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and asafoetida, and mix well.

Step 8

Reduce the heat to low, add the roasted poha to the pan, and mix thoroughly to combine all the ingredients.

Step 9

Season the mixture with salt and powdered sugar. Mix well so that all the flavors are evenly distributed.

Step 10

Turn off the heat and allow the chiwada to cool completely before storing it in an airtight container.

Step 11

Serve the chiwada as a snack during tea time or as a quick homemade party snack.
