Ingredients

  • 3 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 1 tablespoon (grated) Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 2 stalks (sliced for garnish) Green onions
  • 1 tablespoon (for garnish) Toasted sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the pork spareribs by patting them dry with paper towels. Trim off any excess fat and cut them into individual ribs if not done already.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, Chinese five spice powder, and red pepper flakes to create the marinade.

Step 3

Place the spareribs in the crock pot, arranging them in a single layer as much as possible.

Step 4

Pour the marinade over the spareribs, ensuring each rib is well coated.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with the lid and cook on low for 5 hours or until the meat is tender and almost falling off the bone.

Step 6

Optional: For a sticky glaze, after cooking, transfer the spareribs to a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Brush them with some of the cooking liquid, then broil in the oven on high for 3-5 minutes until the sauce caramelizes and the ribs are slightly charred.

Step 7

Transfer the ribs to a serving plate. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving.

Step 8

Serve with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal and enjoy!
