Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Pork spareribs
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Rice wine (or dry sherry)
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Five-spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 2 Scallions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Begin by preparing the spareribs. If necessary, remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs for more tender results. Cut the rack into individual rib pieces for easier handling.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, honey, rice wine, minced garlic, minced ginger, five-spice powder, brown sugar, and sesame oil. Mix thoroughly to create the marinade.

Step 3

Place the spareribs in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the ribs, ensuring they are completely coated. Seal the bag (or cover the dish) and marinate the ribs in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Step 4

When ready to cook, preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the ribs on the rack, reserving the leftover marinade.

Step 5

Bake the ribs in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Every 20 minutes, baste the ribs with the reserved marinade to enhance flavor and keep them moist.

Step 6

After 1 hour, increase the oven temperature to 400°F (204°C). Continue baking for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the ribs are caramelized and slightly charred on the edges. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.

Step 7

Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds, if using.

Step 8

Serve the ribs hot as an appetizer or with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal. Enjoy!
