Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef sirloin (thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (for marinade)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for marinade)
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon ginger (minced)
  • 3 scallions (cut into 2-inch pieces)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)

Directions

Step 1

In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix well and set aside to marinate for 15 minutes.

Step 2

In a small bowl, prepare the sauce by mixing the oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and 1 cup of water. Stir to combine and set aside.

Step 3

Make a cornstarch slurry in a separate bowl by mixing 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water. Set aside for later use.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the beef is browned and just cooked through. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.

Step 5

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the wok. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 6

Add the scallions, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.

Step 7

Return the cooked beef to the wok and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir everything together and bring the sauce to a simmer.

Step 8

Stir the cornstarch slurry to ensure it is well mixed, then pour it into the wok. Stir well until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and vegetables evenly.

Step 9

Remove the wok from heat and transfer the Chinese Savory Beef to a serving dish. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
