Ingredients

  • 2 medium-sized Chinese radishes (daikon)
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 inch piece, thinly sliced Ginger
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1.5 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons Water (for slurry)
  • 2 chopped for garnish Green onions

Directions

Step 1

Peel the Chinese radishes and cut them into 1-inch thick rounds or half-moons, depending on your preference.

Step 2

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic and sliced ginger to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the sliced radishes to the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly golden on the edges.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and 1.5 cups of water. Pour this mixture over the radishes in the skillet.

Step 6

Bring the liquid to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Simmer for 15 minutes, or until the radishes are tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.

Step 7

In a separate small bowl, combine the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry.

Step 8

Uncover the skillet and increase the heat to medium-high. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats the radishes.

Step 9

Taste and adjust seasoning, adding a pinch of salt if needed.

Step 10

Transfer the braised radishes to a serving plate, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve hot. This dish pairs well with steamed rice.
