Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Pork ribs
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine (or dry sherry)
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Chili flakes (optional)
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 2 Green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the pork ribs by rinsing them under cold water and patting them dry with paper towels. If needed, remove the membrane on the back of the ribs for a more tender texture.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, Shaoxing wine, minced garlic, grated ginger, Chinese five-spice powder, sesame oil, and chili flakes (if using). Stir well to create the marinade.

Step 3

Place the pork ribs in a large resealable plastic bag or a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the ribs, ensuring they are completely coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the marinated ribs on the wire rack, meat side up. Reserve the marinade.

Step 5

Cover the ribs with foil to prevent them from drying out, and bake in the preheated oven for 90 minutes.

Step 6

While the ribs are baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. Add 0.5 cup of water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the marinade thickens into a glaze.

Step 7

After 90 minutes, remove the foil covering the ribs and brush them generously with the glaze. Increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and return the ribs to the oven, uncovered. Bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, brushing with glaze every 10 minutes, until the ribs are sticky and caramelized.

Step 8

Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes. Slice between the bones to separate the ribs.

Step 9

Garnish the ribs with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving. Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.
