Ingredients

  • 6 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon (grated) Ginger
  • 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

Peel and finely mince the garlic. Grate the ginger using a microplane or small grater.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch. Whisk well until the sugar and cornstarch are fully dissolved.

Step 3

Heat a wok or skillet over medium heat and add vegetable oil.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the hot oil. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

Step 5

Whisk the soy sauce mixture again to ensure the cornstarch hasn’t settled, then pour it into the wok.

Step 6

Add the water to the wok and stir continuously as the sauce begins to thicken. This should take 1-2 minutes.

Step 7

Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, drizzle in the sesame oil and give the sauce one final stir.

Step 8

Serve immediately as a sauce for stir-fry, steamed vegetables, or as a dipping sauce.
