Ingredients

  • 500 g beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 pieces red chili (finely sliced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger (grated)
  • 0.5 cup plum sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 stalks green onions (sliced diagonally)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 0 steamed rice or noodles (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

Slice the beef into thin strips against the grain to ensure tenderness.

Step 2

In a bowl, toss the beef strips with the cornstarch, ensuring they are evenly coated. This helps create a nice sear during cooking.

Step 3

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef and set it aside.

Step 4

Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the pan. Add the sliced red chili, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir-fry for 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the plum sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar. Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.

Step 6

Return the beef to the skillet and toss it in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, ensuring the beef is fully coated and heated through.

Step 7

Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish the dish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if using.

Step 8

Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a satisfying and delicious meal.
