Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1.5 teaspoons Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into evenly sized chunks, approximately 1-inch in diameter.

Step 2

Rinse the potato chunks under cold water to remove excess starch.

Step 3

Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.

Step 4

Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low and let the potatoes simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.

Step 5

While the potatoes are cooking, finely mince the garlic cloves and set them aside.

Step 6

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, stir in the minced garlic, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 7

Stir the heavy cream into the butter mixture and heat until warmed through. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 8

Drain the cooked potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot. Allow them to sit for 1-2 minutes over low heat to evaporate any remaining moisture.

Step 9

Using a potato masher or ricer, mash the potatoes to your desired consistency.

Step 10

Gradually pour the warm butter, cream, and spice mixture into the potatoes, stirring until well combined and creamy.

Step 11

Season with additional salt and ground black pepper to taste.

Step 12

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

Step 13

Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful Chili Mashed Potatoes!
