Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground chicken
  • 2 cups Thai holy basil leaves
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 4 pieces Red chili (bird's eye or similar)
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Chicken broth or water
  • 4 servings Cooked jasmine rice

Directions

Step 1

Peel the garlic cloves and chop them finely or crush them with a mortar and pestle along with the red chilies until you get a rough paste.

Step 2

Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 3

Once the oil is hot, add the garlic and chili paste. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4

Add the ground chicken to the wok. Stir-fry it, breaking up the meat into small pieces, and cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and chicken broth or water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

Step 6

Pour the sauce mixture into the wok with the cooked chicken. Stir everything together and let it cook for another 2–3 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.

Step 7

Turn off the heat and immediately stir in the Thai holy basil leaves. The residual heat will wilt the leaves without overcooking them.

Step 8

Serve the Chicken Holy Basil hot over steamed jasmine rice for a complete meal.
