Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1.5 cups chicken broth
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 0 to taste salt
  • 0 to taste black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and sear for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, add the butter and let it melt. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until softened and translucent.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic, red chili flakes, cayenne pepper, and smoked paprika. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to release the flavors.

Step 5

Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes to deepen the flavor.

Step 6

Pour in the chicken broth and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and honey. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.

Step 8

Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, making sure they are coated in the sauce. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the chicken cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Step 9

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately with steamed rice, pasta, or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
