Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.5 cup Baking soda
  • 4 cups Hot water
  • 2 tbsp Coarse salt
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter, for brushing

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

Step 2

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.

Step 3

Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until the dough comes together.

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Lightly oil a large bowl and place the dough inside. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel, and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
