Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large egg
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large garlic cloves
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons parsley
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel and finely dice the yellow onion.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until soft and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Step 4

Finely mince the garlic cloves.

Step 5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, cooked onions, salt, pepper, and parsley. Mix gently with your hands or a fork until just combined. Do not overmix as it can make the meatloaf dense.

Step 6

Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it into a greased or parchment-lined loaf pan, or shape it free-form on a baking sheet.

Step 7

In a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce and ketchup together for the glaze. Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.

Step 8

Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and spread the remaining glaze over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature reads 160°F (70°C) on a meat thermometer.

Step 10

Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
